Join us on September 16 for this special Signature Speaker event presented by AMA OKC & PRSA OKC:
“Telling Stories that Change People”
Health behavior change marketing is different from commercial marketing. Rather than just change brand preference from one product to another, we must change a fundamental behavior. This is more difficult, and requires that we go beyond simply “creating awareness.” Storytelling can be a powerful strategy to change behavior, but only when those stories are relevant to those most at-risk and convince them that a better option is available to them using benefits they value.
This session will review how to create stories that those most at-risk can identify with; showing them how and why people like them are choosing to change their behavior. The session will review the process of “psychographic segmentation” to create discrete groups with common values, lifestyles, and interests that can then inform the development of stories that effectively change attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.
Jeffrey Jordan is President and Founder of Rescue Agency, a public health-focused, behavior change marketing agency. His career in social change began in high school when he volunteered for an anti-tobacco group at his local county health department. Observing the challenges of engaging high-risk youth, he started Rescue when he was only 17 years old. While growing Rescue, Jeff studied marketing for his undergraduate degree and received a Master’s in Experimental Psychology from UCSD.
Today, Jeffrey oversees the management of dozens of behavior change interventions. As the developer of Social Branding, Jeffrey focuses on the relationship between identity, culture and behavior to cause behavior change. His company’s work focuses on tackling issues such as tobacco, nutrition and substance use. Today, Jeff leads a team of over 180 change agents focused exclusively on health behavior change among youth, young adults and adults for government agencies across the U.S.
