After the Storm, Yours Begins: How Professional Communicators Lead After a Crisis
Anna Aguilar is the Media & Creative Coordinator with Moore Norman Technology Center and has worked in school PR for 20 years. She has taken the Oklahoma Basic Emergency Management course and multiple FEMA PIO certification courses. She’ll provide an overview of the crisis communications assistance she gave to Moore Public Schools after the May 20, 2013 EF5 tornado destroyed two schools and their administration building, and killed seven elementary students. She’ll share how to provide PR assistance in worst-case scenarios with limited technology and communications, having no working or trust relationships with the administrative team you’ve agreed to help, and in the absence of any typical information required to work with a demanding media. She’ll share how professional networking and continued crisis training made the difference. Anna will also discuss the social media aspect of crisis communications and provide takeaways to help you plan and prepare.
