
Q. Describe your upbringing and college career.
I was born in Riverside, CA, but moved to Oklahoma when I was really young so I consider myself an Okie. I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated with my Bachelors in Marketing and a minor in Strategic Communication.Going into college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to pursue as a career, but I knew I wanted to do something that allows me to be creative. After discussions with my college advisor, friends and peers, I was eventually steered towards the path of Marketing and Strategic Communication.
Q. What about marketing piqued your interest?
What piqued my interest about marketing was the different ways we can communicate to people and how our emotions can be influenced based on the messaging, creative and tone. I was particularly interested in how people are communicating with people in the digital space and how that area of marketing is constantly changing and evolving.
Q. What is your current job and what do you enjoy most about it?
I am currently a Marketing Projects Coordinator with Tinker Federal Credit Union andI have been there for almost three years. What I enjoy most about my job is how I get to collaborate with my team to successfully pull off a campaign or promotion. I work with an amazing group of people who love what they do and they are the reason I love coming into work every day.
Q. How long have you been a member of AMA and why did you join?
I have been a member of AMA for over two years. The reason I joined was because I have always wanted to join an organization where I could connect with so many people in the same field or industry and have a passion for what they do. TFCU gave me the opportunity to join and I jumped on it.
Q. Why do you feel it’s important to stay up to date with new practices and tactics in the marketing world and how does it relate to your job?
The way we communicate with the public and the world is constantly changing because the way we consume marketing is evolving. Technology will continue to improve at a rapid pace and that is changing how we are needing to communicate and reach people. Because of all these constant changes happening all the time, it is so important to stay up to up to date on the things happening in the marketing world.
Q. What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever been given?
The best business advice that I have ever been given as a young professional is to advocate for the change that you want to see in your company/organization if you believe that change will better the company/organization and move them forward as a business. Even if that change runs into roadblocks along the way, continue to fight for it.
Q. Do you have a favorite marketing publication, podcast, conference, etc.that you would recommend?
My favorite conference since working at TFCU is the Financial Brand, a big conference that brings people from different financial institutions from all over the country together to learn all kinds of things relating to financial marketing.
Q. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I may not look like it, but I LOVE to eat. If I had to choose a dream job, it would be to travel the world and try different food.
