Q. Describe your background (where you grew up, college, etc.):
I grew up in Oklahoma City, OK, and went to college in San Antonio, TX, at Trinity University. I majored in Chinese, Spanish, and (no surprise here) Marketing!
Q. What about marketing piqued your interest?
I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember, so I really care about stories. Marketing is all about telling the story of your brand, so it really appealed to me!
Q. What is your current job and what do you enjoy most about it?
Right now, I’m a Content Marketing Specialist. I love writing in a variety of disciplines (blogs, newsletters, drop-off pieces, etc.) and working with my stellar team here at Express International Headquarters.
Q. How long have you been a member of AMA and why did you join?
I’ve been a member of AMA for the last 2 years. I joined to connect with other marketing professionals in my community and to keep up on industry trends.
Q. Why do you feel it’s important to stay up to date with new practices and tactics in the marketing world and how does it relate to your job?
Marketing trends and tech can change on a dime. Something I write today might be perfectly optimized and timely, and totally…not tomorrow, haha. Keeping up to date with new practices and tactics means my writing reaches more people, which is always the goal!
Q. What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever been given?
“You’re just looking for merit badges, Caleb,” from my advisor in college. I wanted to tack on another major that wasn’t super related to what I wanted to do after graduation. Doing more things is great, and commendable, but time is limited, and you need to make sure whatever you’re doing fits into your overall career path.
Q. Do you have a favorite marketing publication, podcast, conference, etc. that you would recommend?
Marketing Over Coffee is great!
Q. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I lost a shoe on the Great Wall (yup, of China) once! I was running up the path and it just kind of flew off. A pal was able to retrieve it though!
